Trip to the Mount Congreve
2024
Today, a group of LTI students visited Mount Congreve, a beautiful estate renowned for its expansive gardens and diverse plant species.
We extend our gratitude to the Waterford Libraries, Leaf programme, POBAL, Waterford Integration Services for facilitating this enlightening day.

This excursion provided students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning about the fundamental principles of horticulture.
As they explored the vast gardens, the students encountered a remarkable variety of flora, witnessing firsthand the intricacies involved in growing vegetables and fruits.
The experience sparked a palpable interest among the students regarding the processes of cultivation and sustainable gardening practices. Observing the different methods employed in the garden allowed them to appreciate the dedication and knowledge required to maintain such a thriving ecosystem. It was rewarding to see the students asking questions and eagerly absorbing information about planting techniques, soil health, and the importance of biodiversity.
The visit not only enriched the students’ understanding of horticulture but also fostered a deeper appreciation for nature’s beauty and the role of sustainable practices in food production. Such experiences are invaluable in cultivating a future generation that is informed and passionate about environmental stewardship and sustainable agriculture.
The Literacy & Food Education (LEAF) Programme is about empowering communities to grow their own food as a vital climate action. It’s about sowing seeds of empathy and nurturing a culture of sustainable living, all while turning libraries into bustling hubs of food growing.
